USDA Funds Small Wind Turbine and Renewable Energy System Utilization for Rural Farmers-

The USDA has recently initiated an original renewable energy proposal, called the USDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), which assists farmers, rural business owners and ranchers in purchasing small wind turbines or other renewable energy systems to sustain their locations. The grant paperwork is due July 31st, 2009, covers 25 percent of the entire installed cost of the small wind turbine system and, when used in accordance with the Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), can aid farmers in building small wind turbine systems for approximately 50 percent less than typical costs. The renewable energy credits and incentives involved in utilizing green energy can beat out costs almost completely when combined with the savings procured from producing your own electricity. Local electric utility companies offer rebates to their customers for investing in wind power, and it is projected that locations with average daily wind speeds of 11 mph could potentially receive a 12 percent annual rate of return on investment and a minimum 8 year payback. USDA Rural Energy for America Program candidates must apply no later than July 31st, 2009 – more information may be found by visiting www.rurdev.usda.gov.
