Top Green Building Products of 2009
Sustainable Industries Magazine Releases it’s Annual List of Innovative Green Building Products-
Award winning business magazine – Sustainable Industries – has released its list of the Top 10 Green Building Products of 2009, with selections based upon environmental performance, originality, visual design, cost, congruency with LEED certification standards and market influence. “In the four years Sustainable Industries has produced this trusted and popular independent guide, green building has advanced to the mainstream,” says Brian Back, Founding Editor & Publisher of Sustainable Industries. “We’re confident the Top 10 Green Building Products guide provides a unique snapshot of some of the most innovative building materials on the market today.” The Top 10 Green Building Product winners are as follows:

- Acadia Combined Heating and Cooling System, made by Hallowell International, is not your average heat/cooling system; it maintains 200 percent efficiency even when outdoor temperatures drop below zero degrees Fahrenheit, helping to save up to 70 percent on energy costs.

- ec-H20, made by Tennant Company, needs no chemicals to perform but instead uses tap water to clean almost any surface; with each device decreasing water consumption by 70-80 percent, potentially saving 245 million gallons of water each year if it were integrated in all new floor cleaning machines.
- InSpire Wall, made by ATAS International, is a solar collecting wall and fresh air heating system that cuts energy use while improving indoor air quality. Depending on which type of heating fuel is replaced, this innovation can slash heating costs by up to $5 per square foot of InSpire Wall inducted.

- Kama EEBS Structural Systems, made by kama Energy Efficient Building Systems, which incorporates a light metal stud framing scheme with stretched polystyrene insulation in a original design that eradicates thermal bridging and helps create a tight, sustainable building cloak.

- PlybooPure Bamboo Plywood, made by Smith & Fong, uses sustainable bamboo plywood for flooring and other related applications.

- RainTube, made by GLI Systems, is a rain gutter filter made of 100 percent post-consumer high-concentration polyethylene. This product received more Top 10 nominations than any other product in 2009 and is cradle-to-cradle certified, meaning that GLI Systems has to implement a Post-Use Recovery Plan with every product that ships out.

- Separett Villa, made by Separett, is a urine-redirecting composting toilet that uses absolutely no water and keeps solids separate from liquids to reduce odor. The toilet may also be used where there is no plumbing, making it an excellent choice for remote locations.
- Serious Windows, made by Serious Materials, allows absolutely no need for existing heating systems as the window’s insulation soaks up waste heat from building appliances to serve as the main heat source in certain applications. The windows have a full-frame R value of at least 5 and up to 11, which can cut a building’s energy bills by up to 50 percent per month.

- Solatube Daylighting Systems, made by Solatube International, captures direct sunlight and redirects it down an adaptable length tube to bring daylight to areas of buildings that normally would not have access to natural light.

- Your Old Light Fixture, made by Eleek, offers a unique light restoration service; taking every individual piece of the fixture apart to repair and restore them using only modern re-wiring standards and energy efficient lamp fixtures such as CFL and LED.
These products are only ten of the most innovative green products of 2009, although there have been too many outstanding advancements in the way of green applications to name on one list. The complete product information list can be found by visiting Sustainable Industries Magazine.

Great list – but I think they made a mistake – InspireWall is an imitation of SolarWall ( http://www.solarwall.com ) – check out the installations (1000+ all over the world for SolarWall, over 30 years in business, recognized by the DoE, countless awards, etc..) InSpireWall is a knock off – I’m surprised they can get away with it (I’m prety sure the tech is patented?)… anyways just a heads up.
Bamboo is really nice material to replace hardwoods as the flooring and plywood. plyboo’s plywood looks very well, I like it.
