Interview with Screen Gems’ Executive Producer, Glenn Gainor, on Set Recycling & Importance of Sustainability-

Glenn Gainor, Executive Producer for Screen Gems, took a moment to give Green Energy News a guided tour through Stage 23 at the Sony Pictures Entertainment, Culver City lot. He shows off the ground-fixed “super steel structure” building skeleton, as well as the FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council) plywood panels which are constantly reused and fitted to the structure as needed for production. The set reuse initiative has allowed the studio to salvage tons of wood and other precious resources annually. SPE also stores their various set props and pieces in warehouses surrounding the studio which are recycled on TV and feature releases – with over 5000 set pieces reused in 2008 alone – further facilitating the studio’s path toward sustainable production. Gainor has served as head of physical production for Screen Gems since early 2007, and has been actively involved on Stage 23 producing box office hits like Quarantine, The Stepfather, Obsessed, Death at a Funeral and Takers.
