U.S. President Barack Obama Awarded 2009 Nobel Peace Prize (VIDEO)
Many Puzzled over President Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Award-
The Norwegian Nobel Committee recently honored U.S. President Barack Obama with the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, one of the five Nobel Prizes contributed by the Swedish industrialist and inventor Alfred Nobel. The award has left many taken aback, seeing as the newly appointed president has not completed much of the work ahead of him to bring America toward energy independence and racial pacification. Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg asserts that the award carries grave responsibilities regarding America’s path forward on nuclear disarmament and international diplomacy; while many critics claim the prize was bestowed upon the U.S. president to create political coercion concerning nuclear demobilization and avoid reported “Plan B” military operations against Afghanistan. Afghan President Hamid Karzai saluted Obama, saying that the citizens of his nation “recognize and commend President Obama’s vision and leadership with a hope that peace and normalcy will return to Afghanistan and our region.” Conversely, Hamas official Ahmed Yousef congratulated Obama for the award, but declares that “the president has done nothing to push forward peace between Israeli and Palestinians.” The news has undeniably shocked the likes of world leaders, human rights activists, and other Nobel laureate; with Lech Walesa – a 1983 Nobel laureate and Polish human rights activist – stating, “So soon? This is too soon. He has not yet made a real input. He is proposing, he is starting, but he still has to do it all.” An Egyptian human rights activist, Yet Hisham Quasim, also lends his comments, “He has achieved nothing. He’s stumbling. He hasn’t achieved any of his promises and nothing is working. He promised to close Guantanamo and now that’s not going to happen, and the Arab-Israeli conflict looks like it’s going to get very nasty.” These passionate observations from Quasim and others were parodied in a recent episode of the popular American slapstick comedy show, Saturday Night Live (video below). “The real question Americans are asking is, ‘What has President Obama actually accomplished?’” said Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. “It is unfortunate that the president’s star power has out-shined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights.” Obama joins the company of Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Woodrow Wilson, and Theodore Roosevelt as Nobel laureates that have served in the White House.
