U.S. Energy Secretary Applauds Companies that Quit U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Energy Secretary Steven Chu commends those in Opposition of U.S. Chamber’s Stance on Climate Change Policy-
United States Energy Secretary Steven Chu has stood up to openly congratulate companies that have renounced the U.S. Chamber of Commerce because of the organization’s impracticality regarding a rigid climate change policy. The energy secretary also maintains that other corporations should quit the group if the Chamber does not accept the ingenuity being presented by businesses taking aggressive action against global warming. “I think it’s wonderful,” Chu told reporters at a solar energy event on the National Mall. He said companies that left the Chamber protest “to foot dragging, to denials” and understand that struggles to reduce emissions of harmful greenhouse gases are “part of our economic future in the United States.” He also advises the Chamber to change its position before it’s too late, stating, “I would encourage the Chamber of Commerce to realize the economic opportunity that the United States can lead in a new industrial revolution.” Technology giant Apple, Inc recently resigned from the Chamber, as well as three leading electric utility companies: Exelon Corp, PG&E Corp, and PNM Resources Inc.
