Tell Obama: Don’t Expand Offshore Drilling
U.S. President Pushes Offshore Oil Drilling Expansion-
Last week, President Obama revealed plans to open 167 million acres of formerly protected ocean waters for offshore oil and gas drilling throughout the East Coast, Gulf of Mexico and Alaska; areas which oil ally, former President George W. Bush, didn’t even access. Obama’s plan negates the very agenda that he proposed before his election, in which he promised liberal alternative energy investments to relieve America’s reliance on polluting fossil fuels. Not to mention, Obama’s plan would grant big oil, an industry known for environmental destruction, drilling rights in a vast stretch of ocean that has been restricted for nearly two decades.”The answer is not drilling everywhere all the time,” Obama said in
an event at Andrews Air Force Base. “But the answer is not, also, for us to ignore the fact that we are going to need vital energy sources to maintain our economic growth and our security.” The recent discovery of the Haynesville natural gas field in Louisiana, however, is substantial enough to provide around 100 years of alternative energy while the nation explores cleaner, more sustainable energy resources.
