Construct a Solar Powered Vehicle for Under $600-

Farrukh Kahn, a student at the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore in Pakistan, built his own solar powered car in 18 days – proving that there is hope yet to end the constant stream of cash into big oil’s pockets. Dubbed ‘Solaron’, the three wheeler was constructed with used bicycle parts and a 40 watt solar PV canopy that connects to an on-board 12 volt dry cell solar battery. The best news? It cost him less than 600 bucks to build! According to Khan, his prototype can reach a top speed of 20 MPH and has a range of about 43 miles. While it isn’t yet practical for the daily commute (unless, that is, you work close to home), it seems to be perfect for running errands around town. For those who want to give it a go, Khan has posted complete instructions to assemble the solar powered car here.
