EPA Promotes Conversion of Old Cars into Alternative Fuel Vehicles

While there aren’t too many car companies raising the bar for more efficient green vehicles, the EPA is now giving car owners the unique opportunity to convert their own gas guzzler to run on alternative fuels. In calibrating, if you will, their rules for selling alternative fuel conversion systems for cars and certain trucks, they have opened a door to potentially eradicate America’s need for petroleum-based fuels. The EPA’s previous, more stringent standard was decided upon to make certain that inferior fuel conversion jobs didn’t inadvertently cause more pollution, which is more likely than not with a poorly installed system. The EPA’s preliminary rule either approved or denied…

The Future of Alternate Fuels

After much talk for decades, more urgent impetus is now being put into the development of technology to allow vehicles to run on alternate fuels. These fuels are namely those other than petrol and diesel. Changes to designs of cars may require further training by mechanics, but hopefully this will be for the benefit of the planet. Biodiesel can be produced from oil seeds. While diesel engines may be able to run on biodiesel, fuel efficiency is not quite as good as regular diesel, unless fuel injection systems are adjusted. Biodiesel has lower emissions than regular fuels, but is currently more…

NASA Green Aviation Summit Encourages Environmental Sustainability

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has committed to develop environmentally sustainable solutions to the country’s most urgent aviation issues, NASA Administrator Charles F. Bolden Jr. said Wednesday at the Green Aviation Summit. Bolden — a retired United States Marine Corps major general and former NASA astronaut — went on to say that air travel is one of the safest modes of transport and is crucial to the U.S. economy, however rising air traffic has become a burden upon the…

NMSU to Receive Government Funding toward Renewable Energy Projects

New Mexico State University’s International Relations Institute will receive $200,000 in federal funds to support the development of innovative energy sources for New Mexico farmers and ranchers. Most of the cash, $125,000 to be exact, will be apportioned to projects under the university’s Renewable Energy, Water and Arid Lands Task Force. Projects include a new solar system for a biodiesel project fueled by algae, a new solar power system for water…
