Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has recently uncovered its latest eco-fueled endeavor – the ultralight single-disc DVD case – which utilizes roughly 20 percent less plastic than the existing industry standard. The case was debuted May 19th, 2009 with the release of “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” and features an omitted “O-ring”, that which is projected to conserve approximately 322 tons of wood (or 2,200 trees). The studio has affirmed that it will be pursuing eco packaging for all future single-disc DVD releases, and with this implementation, SPHE assesses a 2 million pound reduction in carbon emissions annually – equal to 104,000 gallons of consumed gasoline.
